LocalSolver Nominated for Indus’RO Award
The French Operations Research Society (ROADEF) organizes the Indus’RO Award to promote the impact of mathematical optimization in business and society. LocalSolver is nominated for the Indus’RO Award with two other companies by a panel appointed by ROADEF mixing academic and industrial experts. Some years ago, LocalSolver was already designated for a series of innovative media planning applications developed for the leading French TV network TF1, yielding millions of additional revenues for the TV channels of the group. This year, LocalSolver was selected for his work in partnership with the Hesus startup company. Here is the challenging transportation problem solved in minutes using LocalSolver.
Every day, dozens of construction sites delegate their transportation logistics for excavated earth and construction materials to Hesus. Based on LocalSolver Optimizer as the core optimization engine, Hesus has developed a decision support software to optimize daily dump trucks’ routes and operations. The resulting SaaS optimization solution, called Hesus Dispatch and deployed in LocalSolver Cloud, reduces transportation costs and the carbon footprint of truck journeys by 10% to 15%.
Mathematically speaking, this problem is related to a Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) with full truckloads. The main objective is to reduce as much as possible empty trips for dump trucks, or in other words, unproductive minutes and kilometers for the whole fleet of trucks. Hence, the application optimally matches possible dropoff locations with potential loading sites along the truck routes while respecting many operational constraints.
